Where We Work

Working in Kibera

We work in Kibera, a vast slum in Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi and the largest informal settlement in Africa. It is unclear just how many people live in Kibera but estimates range from 500,000 to 750,000 people living in just 2.25 square kilometres.

Challenges & Potential

Kibera residents live in small one-roomed homes made of mud and iron sheets, with limited access to public amenities. Community and NGO-run schools, hospitals, and clinics are available. While some homes have electricity, many rely on paraffin lamps. Despite the challenges, Kibera is a lively and vibrant community full of music, work, conversation, and play. Its residents face difficulties with resilience and creativity, making Kibera a place of great potential.

Impact

We work in Kibera to provide educational and other opportunities for children and families facing poverty and systemic barriers. Our mission is to help them achieve their full potential by providing support, resources, and a safe environment to learn, grow, and thrive. Through our programmes, we aim to empower individuals and families to build a brighter future for themselves and their community.
